I think that my most successful culture jam is my Sherlock Holmes movie poster, also it was a bunch of fun to make. When it came to making this I used a lot of different techniques in photoshop. I changed the levels on the pictures of Obama and Biden to make them look dirtier in order to match the theme of the rest of the poster. Another technique that helped me do this was using the burn tool, it allowed me to be able to darken their shadows as well as around their eyes. The next technique that I used was the clone tool. I used it to get rid of parts of the background that I didn't want. For example, in the orginial poster there was the Effile Tower in the background and I used the clone tool to get rid of it in order to replace it with the white house.

 

          When thinking about this piece I had already considered using Obama for one of the pieces. So when I saw the Sherlock Holmes poster I thought this would be the perfect chance to not only put obama on but Biden as well. When I thought that I was done, it was pointed out to me that Obama's head was a little big, and the color of his skin was over saturated. So I went back and shurnk his head, and I also darkend his face and put a bluer hue to his face to match the blue hue of the poster.  I also ended up flipping his face around so that the side with the greatest shadow was towards the edge of the poster, and this fixed my problem with the lighting of the overall poster.

 

          My idea for this poster was originally just meant to be funny, lots of people put Obama's head on things. But as the work came together it started to gain a bigger meaning. Now it represents Obama and Biden watching the white house burn. I find that it now has a more political meaning to it as well because some people think that Obama is both literally and figurtively watching America crash and burn. I used the white house in the background to represent America because it is one of the symbols of our  country.

 

          The visual elements that I think work well with the poster are Obama's Head, Bidens head, and the White House. I think that they are blended well with the poster as well as add to the meaning. The dark clouds work well because they set the mood for the piece. When I think of dark clouds I tend to think of storms and darkness. I really like the way that this poster turned out.

 

          There are a couple things that I wish that I had done or done better. I wish that I would have put the american flag with a lowered opacity in the background. I feel like this would have made it just a little bit more political instead of just a changed political poster. I also could have found a better picture of Biden's head because this one looks a little bit blurry. To fix this I could have sharpened up the photo, but this could lead to problems of discoloring and pixilation.
